Teacher Concerned with 5 A to C grades

Dear XXXXX, 

I am a teacher in a secondary school and would like to hear your views as the prospective parliamentary candidate for XXXXX, on the importance of languages in the UK.

The issue of severe grading has harmed the numbers taking languages at GCSE and at AS / A2 level. In my school students are not encouraged to follow any course which will harm their chances of getting 5 A-C grades.

This must be of concern for two reasons:

• • monolingual students are less likely to finds jobs in an increasingly global world.
• • students who speak only one language have a less rich cultural background and this can only work against social cohesion.

My question is then: how best should we go about ensuring social and economic viability in the UK by promoting languages?

I look forward to learning how important this question is for you and how you, if elected as an MP this year, propose to address these problems.
